I met Dr. David Sabgir during the American College of Lifestyle Medicine Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA last October 2018. Together with Rachel Habash, the Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Sabgir personally introduced me to his program called Walk with a Doc (WWAD). It is a unique, physician-led walking program focused on encouraging physical activity among the community. I was inspired by his passion to improve the health of his patients and the whole community despite his busy schedule as a cardiologist.
Because of this, I signed up officially as a walk leader and launched the very first Walk with a Doc in San Jose, Antique, Philippines where I practice as an internist. There were 214 walkers including Antique Medical Center personnel and staff, patients, zumba enthusiasts, government employees, locals and eleven doctors. Our first walk was a success. In fact, we made history as world record holder for most number of walkers.
This activity gives walkers a time to learn about a current health topic, enjoy a healthy walk and conversation with a doc and meet new friends. It’s a great way to get out, get active, and enjoy all the benefits that come from walking. This activity is fun and free!
Walking was recently recognized by the Surgeon General of the United States of America as one of the single most important things we can do for our health. I am challenging physicians, health professionals and future doctors to join us in making health and happiness accessible for all. Join the Walk with a Doc Movement. Start your own today.
