Solons say it’s a step toward healthier PH — Pinoy Edmonton News

As the major supporter of Lifestyle Medicine in Asia the Asian Society of Lifestyle Medicine is carefully monitoring how the newly signed Universal Health Care Law in the Philippines will help to make it a much healthier country. Already the Philippines are one of the leading countries in Lifestyle Medicine with Blecenda Varaona from the Asian Institute of Lifestyle Medicine who had been honored by the Philippines Government for her Community Efforts. Mechelle Acero Palmer, who is also the Director of Education of the Asian Society of Lifestyle Medicine just increased the size of her Remnant Institute and the Manila Seventh Day Adventist Hospital runs even a section specialized in Lifestyle Medicine.

New Health Care Law in the Philippines – 2019

The Pinoy Edmonton News reported President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed on Wednesday last week the Universal Health Care Act. It will enroll all Filipinos automatically under the government’s health insurance program.

Filipinos will receive free medical consultations, tests in Laboratories and other diagnosis services. The new law will include also all overseas Filipino workers. They will be enrolled to PhilHeath too.

The new Heath Care Law in the Philippines will improve the doctor-to-patient ratio. Better capacities in hospitals and expanding medical services as well as establishing hospitals in remote areas are planned.

The signing had been welcome by the World Health Organization WHO. It is a “critical step towards health for all Filipinos.” It sees it as an “excellent proof of commitment to improving access to high quality health services at least cost to families.”

Science overwhelmingly supports the efficacy of Lifestyle Medicine:
Here’s your opportunity to learn and transform your life and your medical practice.
Lifestyle Medicine is both the newest thing in medicine—and perhaps the oldest.  There was a time before ‘medicine’ when lifestyle was it.
Hippocrates advised: let food be thy medicine.
We have found our way back to the future, and with good reason.
“– David Katz, MD, MPH, President, American College of Lifestyle Medicine
